Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (VRT)

Job Description:

  • Assess client’s needs/goals in home and community environments.
  • Collaborate with the client to establish service goals and expectations.
  • Provide individualized vision rehabilitation services that address visual, physical, cognitive and psychosocial abilities related to adaptive independent living skills.
  • Teach independent living skills in areas of personal management, household management, communication, leisure activities, orientation and movement in an indoor environment, and use of low vision and adaptive devices and technology.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Write and organize case notes for clients and enter data collection in database.
  • Identify and collaborate with local, regional and national providers/agencies to address client needs.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to community groups.
  • Participate in activities and events sponsored by DBS and IB West.
  • Develop and maintain a strong and positive collaborative working relationship with other staff to provide seamless and comprehensive services to clients.
  • Attend regional and/or national conferences as appropriate to enhance knowledge and maintain ACVREP certification.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy or a closely related field (as described in Position Summary).
  • Certified in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy or able to chart a reasonable path to achieve certification within 2 years of hire through the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP).
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours can be expected.
  • Pass a background screening.
  • Valid driver’s license as this position requires routine travel to clients’ homes, work sites and other community locations.
