The Visual Disabilities Program in the School of Teacher Education at Florida State University invites applications for an instructional position at the rank of Teaching Faculty I in Visual Disabilities. We seek a colleague to support the Visual Disabilities Program in their commitment to preparing high-quality professionals to assess the needs of and design instruction for students with visual impairments. The successful candidate will coordinate the BS/MS Visual Disabilities pathway and the master’s degree programs. Our goal is to prepare teaching professionals who not only transform the lives of their students but also seek to improve their schools, communities, academic disciplines, and professions.

Responsibilities:
· Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Visual Disabilities;
· Serve on student graduate committees;
· Coordinate the Visual Disabilities program, including but not limited to: (a) advising and mentoring, (b) facilitating field placements (i.e., practicum and internship), (c) supervising field experiences (i.e., practicum and internship), and (d) actively participating in recruitment efforts;
· Meet administrative expectations related to maintaining and reporting of program standards and activities as required by the state, college, university, and the professional discipline, course scheduling, identification and support of instructors, processes for the approval of new courses; and other management activities;
· Provide service to schools, the University, Department, College, and the profession;
· Grow and support existing partnerships/relationships with regional providers of services to individuals with visual impairments; and
· Prepare grant proposals to potential funding agencies.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
· Earned doctorate in Visual Disabilities, Special Education, or a related field by August 2025
· Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
· Minimum of three years of teaching K-12 children with visual impairments in the public school setting
· Experience teaching K-12 children with complex needs in addition to visual impairment
· Significant experience and leadership in one or more educational settings
· Certification as a teacher of students with visual impairments
Preferred Qualifications:
· Successful teaching experience at the college or university level
· Experience coordinating certification programs (including state-level reporting)
· Experience mentoring pre-service and in-service teachers
· Successful grant management and writing
· Experience teaching children with neurological visual impairments
· Experience managing projects and personnel
· ACVREP certification in orientation and mobility (COMS)

This is a Faculty position.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.
