The Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired SC (ABVI) is seeking a certified part-time Low Vision Occupational Therapist (LVOT) to serve the Lowcountry region of South Carolina as an independent contractor. In this role, you will work directly with individuals who are blind or have low vision, helping them live fulfilling, purpose-driven lives. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of low vision rehabilitation techniques and a passion for providing client-focused care.

This part-time position will serve individuals by:

· Conduct client assessments to evaluate physical condition, limitations, medical histories, and goals.

· Communicate with physicians and healthcare providers to confirm care plans and ensure continuity.

· Provide occupational therapy treatment in daily living skills and home management tasks.

· Teach clients to use adaptive technology and assistive devices for low vision; assist with product purchases.

· Act as liaison to community resources for low vision services and collaborate with team members for client care.

Qualifications

· Passion for ABVI’s mission and results. Knowledge of visual systems, eye conditions, and their implications. Knowledge of low vision evaluation techniques and assistive technology. Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office with the ability to learn new software.

· At least two (2) years’ experience working with individuals who are blind or have low vision is strongly preferred.

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s degree in occupational therapy.

· Certification as a Certified Low Vision Therapist (CLVT) is preferred; candidates actively pursuing CLVT certification will also be considered.
