Certified Teacher for the Visually Impaired and/or Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist
Job Description:

Certified Teachers for the Visually Impaired will serve students by:
- Instructing school aged students who are visually impaired or blind to improve educational and independent functioning.
- Assessing developmental, visual, and adaptive needs in the areas of cognition, literacy, social self-help, and other areas specific to low vision and blindness.
- Developing appropriate IEP (individualized education plan).
Certified Orientation and Mobility Therapists will serve individuals by:
- Instructing adults who are visually impaired or blind to improve mobility and independent functioning.
- Addressing all developmental, visual, and adaptive needs including areas of cognition, communication, social, self-help, and other areas specific to low vision/blindness.
- Documenting services provided, travel records and specific data according to the guidelines set forth by ABVI.
- Developing appropriate treatment plans based on assessments.
- Working on-site in client’s natural environment – home, school, or community, to provide instruction.
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field, early childhood education, elementary education, or special education from an accredited institution. Master’s Degree strongly preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years’ related experience preferred. Recent graduates will be considered.
Licensures and certifications:
CTVI: Certified Teacher for the Visually Impaired required. Dual certification as TVI and COMS (from Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals) preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license.
COMS: Certification in O&M from Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP). Certified teacher of the visually impaired preferred. Candidates with VRT and/or VI certification will be considered for added responsibilities.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
