Orientation & Mobility Specialist

.5 FTEProvide professional development, direct and consultative services, evaluations/ assessments, implementation strategies and support with equipment and materials to Special Education professionals, students, and families in the local school districts of Oakland County. Teacher Consultant for the Visually Impaired

Qualifications:

Orientation & Mobility Specialist

  • .5 FTEMA in Orientation & Mobility from AER accredited university/college.
  • Valid COMS certification.
  • 3 yrs. related experience including working with students who are blind & visually impaired.
  • Knowledge of current state & federal mandates related to instruct of students with disabilities & knowledge & skills to consider appropriate O & M strategies.
  • Valid MI driver’s license & ability to travel to local schools throughout Oakland County.
  • Ability to provide PD, consultation, & coaching.

Teacher Consultant for the Visually Impaired

  • .5 FTEMA in Special Education.
  • Valid MI teaching certificate with Visually Impaired (SK) endorsement.
  • If SK endorsement is not held, incumbent would be required to enroll in an SK endorsement program within 6 mos. of employment date & provide documented proof of endorsement when completed.
  • 3 yrs. classroom teaching experience with no less than 2 in Special Education.
  • Knowledge & ability to consider/recommend Assistive Technology equipment & to provide Low Vision Assessments.
  • Knowledge of Special Education processes & general education curriculum & accommodations.
