Job Description:

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/ Executive Director

Location: Naples, Florida

Reports to: Board of Directors

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary: The CEO will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the organization, ensuring the achievement of the mission and goals as set forth in the Strategic Plan. The CEO will oversee all aspects of the nonprofit’s operations, including program development, fundraising, financial management, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

  • Work directly with the Board of Directors to develop a strategic plan and implement the strategic plan to advance the organization’s mission and objectives.
  • Provide executive leadership that supports and guides the organization’s mission.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring long-term sustainability and growth.
  • Maintain official records and documents to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Board Relations:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and the organization.
  • Assist in the selection and evaluation of board members and support board involvement in strategic planning and fundraising.
  • Keep the Board of Directors informed of the condition of the organization and all-important factors positively or negatively affecting the outcome of the organization’s efforts.
  • Provide leadership and insight to the Board of Directors in developing program, organizational and financial plans.

Fundraising and Financial Management:

  • Work in concert with the Board of Directors in implementing a comprehensive fund-raising program for Lighthouse of Collier to include strategies to secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Prepares, implements, and executes an annual budget for the agency projecting program needs, priorities in programming, cost of the program and potential income.
  • Accountable for the financial health of the organization.
  • Develop and maintain sound financial plan and practices to ensure a separation of duties and responsibilities.

Program Development and Management:

  • Identify the needs of the blind population in SW Florida and ensure that the Lighthouse of Collier is meeting those needs to encourage and teach independence.
  • Keep abreast of the significant developments and trends with the field of services to the blind and visually impaired.
  • Oversee the design, marketing, promotion, delivery, and quality of programs and services.
  • Ensure programs are aligned with the organization’s mission and meet the needs of the community.
  • Ensure Lighthouse of Collier meets all service contracts while serving as a Rehabilitation Provider under State Contracts.

Community and Public Relations:

  • Function as the primary spokesperson for the organization, enhancing its public image to expand interest and support, while also identifying clients in the community in need of services.
  • Establish and maintain sound working relationships and collaborations with various organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance the organization’s mission.

Human Resources:

  • Recruit and employ staff and volunteers to ensure that quality programs are performed successfully.
  • Interprets to the staff the goals, objectives, and policies of Lighthouse of Collier.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain the organization’s high-performance team.
  • Ensure effective staff management and development practices are in place.
  • Delegates authority to staff members to carry-out their assigned programs.
  • Evaluates all staff members’ performance.
  • Encourages professional growth of staff members by encouraging staff to attend professional conferences to obtain CE credits.
  • Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of qualified employees.

Qualifications:

To perform the job of CEO successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Language Ability

  • Ability to reach and comprehend complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one small group situations to clients, donors, and employees of the organization.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or others in the community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publications. Excellent communication and public speaking skills.

Business and Financial Ability

  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles.
  • Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, PR, and fundraising.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills.
  • A passion for the organization’s mission and a commitment to its values.

Education/Experience:

A degree (master’s degree preferred) in Social Work, Vocational Rehabilitation, Education, Communications, Psychology, or experience in a related profession is required. Must have a minimum of 6 years’ successful experience as a CEO or in other managerial positions within a nonprofit organization or in an executive level or supervisory position.
